Early Childhood Education (ECEO) Major Map
Overview
This major is only available to students matriculating into WSU with an AS-P Early Childhood degree. A teacher of early childhood education is authorized to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children from birth through grade 6 in a variety of early childhood or public school P-6 settings. The early childhood education teacher collaborates with families, colleagues, and related service personnel to enhance the learning of all young children. Students in this program will be eligible for Early Childhood Education Licensure. This major is separate from Early Childhood/Elementary double major available at Winona State University.

Repetition of Courses
The following courses cannot be repeated more than once due to withdrawal or earning less than a C grade: All Major courses, all Professional Education Sequence courses, all ECEO and EDFD courses, SPED 300, and SOC 212. Only two major courses may be repeated to remain in this program.
Teacher Education Licensure Program

Criteria required before completing online application:
- 30 college level credits completed with no more than 4 credits of pass/no credit
- Cumulative G.P.A. of at least ≥ 2.75 based on 30 most recent credits including all credits per semester
- B grade or better in a 3-credit college level writing course (ENG 111 if taken at WSU)
- B grade or better in a 3-credit college level speech course (CMST 191 or CMST 192 if taken at WSU)
- C grade or better in a 3-credit college level math course (MATH 202 is required for Elementary and Early Childhood majors)
- Early Clinical experience; clinical hours ≥ 15 hours: Complete 15 hours of experience working with children post high school graduation

These courses are considered foundational for the rest of the major. C grade or better required.

- EDFD 400 and 460 must be taken concurrently
- EDFD 420 and 440 must be taken concurrently
- EDFD 459 and 462 must be taken concurrently
Student Teaching (12 credits)
Electives
A total of 120 credits are required for a Bachelor’s Degree. After General Education Program (GEP) and Major requirements are met, electives can be taken to meet the 120 credit requirement.
