NURS 658 - Continence Care


(3 credits)

Learners will focus on gastrointestinal and genitourinary anatomy, physiology, and dysfunction. Course content guides students to use assessment principles and associated procedures to arrive at a diagnosis and develop management plans. Students will develop education about urinary and fecal incontinence types, including lifestyle modifications, behavioral management techniques, pharmacotherapy, incontinence products, and surgical options. Learners will examine the WOC nurse’s role in managing urinary and fecal incontinence to develop strategies for prevention of complications while improving the quality of life for clients with incontinence. NURS 628 - Professional Practice in Wound, Ostomy, Continence (WOC) Nursing  or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered annually (usually spring semester).
