EEOL 306 - Assessment in the Elementary Classroom

This course explores effective assessment strategies for educators. Students will learn about various types of assessments and their purposes, and how to identify and reduce bias in both standardized and teacher-created assessments. The course emphasizes the importance of regularly assessing individual and group performance to tailor instruction to students’ cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical needs. Students will also learn to provide effective descriptive feedback and engage students in self-assessment and goal setting. Additionally, the course covers designing and selecting assessments that address specific learning goals and individual differences. Prerequisite: College of Education Admission. Corequisites: EEOL 301 - Development Theories, EEOL 305 - Development Observation: Children in Context, EEOL 307 - Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom, EEOL 310 - Global Studies in the Elementary School, EEOL 315 - Global Studies Field Experience. Grade only. Offered annually (usually fall semester).
