EEOL 410 - Culturally Responsive Practices and Family Engagement in Elementary Education

This course equips future elementary educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to create inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students. A central focus will be on developing and implementing culturally responsive teaching strategies, including the use of valuable resources to support diverse learners. Candidates will learn to integrate real-world learning experiences such as service learning, community-based projects, and project-based learning to enhance student engagement and understanding. Effective communication with families is emphasized, covering topics such as student development, learning, and performance, with a focus on reciprocal and culturally affirming communication practices. Prerequisite: EEOL 330 - Science and Technology in the Elementary Classrooms. Corequisites: EEOL 400 - Data Decisions, EEOL 420 - Diverse Learners, and EEOL 450 - First Six Weeks Student Teaching. Grade only. Offered annually (usually fall semester).
