EEOL 450 - First Six Weeks Student Teaching

This intensive, field-based course is the first in a four-course sequence designed to help teacher candidates explore what it means to be a professional educator. Grounded in the real-world experience of a six-week field experience in a primary-grade (K-6) classroom, EEOL 450 emphasizes culturally responsive teaching, reflective practice, collaboration with families and communities, and the integration of research into instructional decision-making. Teacher candidates will engage with foundational topics such as classroom management, inclusive learning environments, social-emotional learning, and equity-based instruction. Through readings, discussions, and clinical experiences, students will apply theory to practice, develop effective teaching strategies, and demonstrate professionalism, advocacy, and responsiveness in diverse school settings. Aligned with Minnesota Standards of Effective Practice, this course develops growth in knowledge, skills, and dispositions essential for beginning teachers. Prerequisite: EEOL 330 - Science and Technology in the Elementary Classrooms. Corequisites: EEOL 400 - Data Decisions, EEOL 410 - Culturally Responsive Practices and Family Engagement in Elementary Education, and EEOL 420 - Diverse Learners. Grade only. Offered annually (usually fall semester).
